Acute Mental Health Facility

Healthcare

Client: Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust

Value: £5M

We were appointed on the energy and sustainability strategy for the proposed 8500 m2 Acute Mental Health Facility on the Wittington site. We offered a concierge service for the 78 in-patient bed site, working with the GLA London Plan 2020 requirements and London Borough of Islington (LBI) Local plan with Energy Strategy, CIBSE TM52 and TM54 assessments to constructively inform the decision making process.

The ‘fabric first’ philosophy was applied to achieve the GLA’s 35% reduction in overall regulated CO2 emissions, meaning a focus on quality envelope design with good U-values and air permeability. A versatile system of heat pumps was devised to handle space heating and cooling, and to satisfy the significant hot water requirements of the building with special attention paid to mitigating the risk of legionella contamination that could arise from water storage.
