Located south of the main Kings College Hospital site in the London Borough of Lambeth (LBL), the proposed building will provide outpatient facilities to allow the decant of specialist services from the main hospital. BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and compliance with Part L was achieved with the need for carbon intensive active-cooling measures mitigated with design recommendations from TM52 thermal comfort modelling.
Sustainability was at the heart of this project, applying reduce, re-use and recycle for construction waste and water use. A 65% reduction in carbon emissions was targeted, using passive design methodology to account for 26% of this reduction. To complement this high specification envelope, an increased efficiency VRV system and ASHP powered radiant panel system was proposed. Hot water was served with a bivalent system, mostly ASHP powered - and some PV was added on top for good measure.
