Education

Client: University of the Arts London

Value: £1.2m

This new studio space for the Wimbledon College of Art, part of the University of the Arts London (UAL), was completed in 2016. The College’s key objective was to provide new studio facilities that would make more functional and efficient use of the main campus, replacing several temporary structures with a new building.

Innovation and sustainability were key drivers in the process and in achieving BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ as a prerequisite. The key aspects and credits that helped deliver the highest level of accreditation were: addressing time critical credits, minimising CO2 emissions, having a fully collaborative team, providing detailed specifications to the contractor and assigning responsibility for every credit.

The Design-stage assessment achieved the second highest BREEAM score in the world at the time and won the RIBA London Award 2017 and RIBA London Sustainability Award 2017 and was nominated for a BREEAM Award.
